Leader’s Biography 2000: Director of Infectious Diseases, The Miriam Hospital/Brown University, Providence, RI As head of an inner-city center for drug-addicted, HIV-positive residents, Flanigan jumped bureaucratic hurdles to set up a care system for at-risk Rhode Island prison inmates. Not stopping there, he launched an education project for children of incarcerated and drug-addicted women, and a prison medicine program at Brown University’s Miriam Hospital.
