Satira Streeter, Psy.D.

Dr. Streeter not only serves as the leading authority on the mental health concerns of the greater Washington community, but is also a community activist and advocate. I have oftentimes stepped back, stunned by how she is able to run a successful mental health practice while effortlessly attending to the needs of the community. Dr. Streeter not only inspires me to be an extraordinary clinician, but a pillar in my community, as well.

Leader's Biography 2009:
Satira Streeter, Psy.D., is the executive and clinical director of Ascensions Community Services, Inc., in Washington, D.C. She is determined to improve the mental health and overall quality of life in the Anacostia neighborhood. She combines her commitment to her profession as a clinical psychologist with her activism in the community, where she is a volunteer leader of a support group for single moms, a Girl Scout troop leader, an advocate for strong families, and she teaches social skills to boys as a way of preventing their membership in gangs. Working without a salary for more than two years, Streeter founded Ascensions Community Services to ensure that children and their families living in the Anacostia community would have the mental health services that they so desperately need. Ascensions provides free, comprehensive community mental wellness services and holistic psychological interventions to disadvantaged children and their families living in the area.
