Angela Bianco, B.S.N., R.N.

I wanted to foster responsibility, not dependence, in the Navajo community. It was my dream to train lay health workers to do the outreach, treatment, education, and follow up that we had done.

Leader’s Biography 1995:
Program Coordinator, The Gathering Place, Thoreau, NM
An emergency room nurse from Brooklyn, New York, Bianco moved to southwest New Mexico to establish prenatal, maternal health and literacy programs on a Navajo Reservation. Committed to encouraging self-sufficiency, Angela implemented economic development programs such as an Artisans co-operative that sells Native crafts through a television shopping network.
