Amanda Gaynor Ashley, D.M.D., Ms.Edu.

She has started and continued numerous programs and clinics, such as training programs to hire local employees, fluoride rinse programs for the elementary schools, quarterly educational appearances in the schools to teach the children the importance of oral health, not to mention the numerous specialty clinics. She holds kids clinics, oral surgery clinics, denture clinics, diabetes clinics, sealant clinics and even mouth guard clinics. She not only has started all these programs and clinics, but she has recruited many new dentists and specialists to the North Slope to help provide the services that are so desperately needed.

Leader's Biography 2009:
Amanda Gaynor Ashley, D.M.D., Ms.Edu., is the dental clinic director at the Samuel Simmonds Memorial Hospital Dental Clinic, in Barrow, Alaska. She brought new life to an oral health clinic in Alaska’s remote North Slope Borough area. Her efforts to improve the oral health of the North Slope Borough community include a collaboration with the Ilisagvik Tribal College to train dental assistants. She brings enthusiasm to her work to expand awareness of the importance of oral health through efforts to provide onsite dental care at area elementary schools. Under Ashley’s leadership, the frequency of dental emergencies has been drastically reduced, and her clinic has trained members of the community to help transform the oral health of an entire generation.
